"I look forward to the competition again this year. I will be defending my first place finish from last year's event and hopefully, the Northern Ontario Heritage Great Canadian Kayak Challenge trophy will stay in Timmins where it rightfully belongs", added Mayor Laughren
The Great Canadian Kayak Challenge is a community-oriented event that will bring together friends, family and visitors for two days of fun-filled activities and an extremely entertaining evening of live concert performances. This year, all children's activities including rock climbing, inflatables and pony rides are courtesy of The Kiwanis Club of Timmins and will be available to all children free of charge. Art in the Park exhibitions, community information booths, tie- dye competitions, a beer garden and plenty of food will make the Great Canadian Kayak Challenge & Festival a fun "end of summer" weekend for the entire family.
According to Guy Lamarche, Co Chair of the event Steering Committee, "this year's event will be much bigger and much better than the last with several new additions to the agenda. Paddlers from Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Thunder Bay, and Toronto have expressed interest in this year's event. Corporate support from the community has been overwhelming and Celebrate Ontario has approved our request for funding the purchase of a 5,400 square foot event tent. This event is well on its way of becoming a signature event for the City of Timmins."
