Kayak for the Heart of It

Kayak for the Heart of it logoThe Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (Timmins Area Office) cordially invites you and your 3-person kayak team to participate in the 3rd Annual KAYAK FOR THE HEART OF IT! fundraising event on Sunday August 25th, 2013 in Timmins, Ontario, proudly sponsored by IAMGOLD.

This spirited sprint fundraiser started in 2011 and continues to be one of our region’s most competitive water sports event. KAYAK FOR THE HEART OF IT! has family, friends, co-workers and new teams racing to the finish line to raise funds and awareness regarding heart health related issues – and of course for bragging rights! The Heart and Stroke Foundation is continuing this incredible experience in Timmins and we need your team to help us “Give Canadians More Time” by putting your paddles in the Mattagami this summer.

The event is split into two main divisions. The extreme experienced kayakers paddle in the Experienced Hearts Division, against those teams who compete at the same level. The Amateur Hearts division is open to newer, less experienced teams.

To keep the competitive teams on the edge of their kayaks, the Experienced Hearts division will be chasing the glory of cash prizes and trophy for best time overall. There will be certificates awarded for Team Spirit, as well as Best Effort. Those teams entering this category will have had experience competing as kayakers in the past and aren’t afraid of “a little competition!” Experienced participants also have the option to fundraise and will be recognized formally for their efforts. CASH PRIZES FOR EXPERIENCED DIVISION WILL BE BASED UPON REGISTRATION NUMBERS

To encourage the Amateur Hearts who are paddling for the healthy exercise and to raise awareness for Heart and Stroke issues, we are offering this division of the event as a Fit for Heart pledge based event. Minimum to be raised in order to participate is $50 per adult participant and $ 25 per youth participant through achieving donations using their pledge envelopes. Not only will the Amateur Hearts division be vying for the best time overall trophy, the individual participant can earn prizes according to the amount of donations raised on their pledge envelopes! There will be certificates awarded for Team Spirit, as well as Best Effort. One of the exciting options when entering as an “Amateur Heart Team” is that you can also fundraise online! Any amount raised online will count towards your team’s overall effort, and your own prizing level!
